Randy is the owner/operator of The Purple Door and does all the picking for the shop outside of what his vendors have. His goal is to stay true to their tagline “Antique and Uniques”. He’s often asked what he is looking for when picking and his typical response is “I’ll know it when I see it”. He is selective on what he brings into the shop and loves to find items that will be a conversation piece in your home.
The shop has been referred to as eclectic, but also varied to capture the interest of the variety of patrons that visit the shop. There’s a little bit of something for everybody!
A Landscape Architect by profession, he was a partner and eventual CEO for a large multidisciplinary engineering firm in Nashville for over 37 year. The Purple Door, is as he puts it, his retirement gig that doesn’t feel like work at all. He’s recognized around town by his unique handlebar mustache. The shop was his wife’s, Janice, vision and she did all the beautiful embroidery and knitting work that can be found there.
Janice passed away in 2024 after a battle with cancer and Randy’s passion is to operate the shop in a manner that pays tribute to her beautiful smile that welcomed every customer that visited the shop. And by the way, Purple was her favorite color if you wonder how the store got its name!
